Karibu!! (Welcome!)
Tonight I cooked an authentic Kenyan meal for my family. It was so fun! I was in the kitchen for nearly two hours and then had TONS of dishes to wash afterwards but it was so worth it.

Many places we went "treated" us by getting us bottled soda. I decided we had to have them too.
Minus the candles, all the decorations were right from Kenya!
Rice! (I also made beans) Two of the main staples.
Irio (mashed potatoes mixed with pureed peas and corn)

Chapati bread. It's like a mix between pita and tortilla.
"Kenyan Butterfinger" (Peanut butter, oatmeal, chocolate. Yum!)
It was such a tasty meal! Eating it took me back to those short weeks I spent in Kenya a few months ago. There was something about the taste of the food and the way it quickly filled my stomach that was familiar and uncomfortable. (Lots of starchy food with soda on top of it= FULL stomach) In Kenya, it is rude to leave food on your plate so we had to eat everything they gave us. Needless to say, there were many days spent with upset tummies.
Looking back on my trip, a smile always comes to my face. I learned and experienced so much. I wish I could express it all... but it is so very hard too and I don't think I even understand it all yet.
I am so blessed to have all of these memories and the knowledge of real people's stories and living situations. The Lord has blessed me beyond words.
